QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Iowa Teaching Certificate
- BA required, MA preferred
- Teaching experience preferred; junior high/middle school focus
- Earth/Life/Physical Science background and/or experience
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES: n/a
JOB GOALS: To motivate each student and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, concepts and process in science in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to adolescent students.
- Awareness and application of technological applications which contribute to effective science teaching.
- Use a variety of assessment techniques.
- Use effective motivational techniques.
- Sequence material in a logical order.
- Use behavior management strategies consistent with school procedures and routines.
- Teach for understanding.
- Teach to objectives of district curriculum.
- Plan effectively (short and long lesson design and planning)
- Set high expectations for your professional development and for student achievement.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues.
- Frequently communicate with parents regarding student progress.
- Recognize organizational needs of junior high school students.
- Provide frequent specific feedback to students.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the work day.
- Fulfill conditions of employment outlined in the negotiated agreement.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities assigned by the principal.
- Potentially work with a special education colleague to deliver instruction in a collaborative teaching manner.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 184/186 Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
