Night Custodian

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Demonstrate experience in custodial industry or ability to be trained and evaluated by the Director of the Facilities Department or Custodial Manager.
  2. Demonstrate proven ability to communicate with others.
  3. Knowledge of housekeeping practices, supplies, materials, equipment, and the ability to perform custodial duties.
  4. Knowledge of minor equipment repairs.
  5. Knowledge of routine maintenance.
  6. Bending, lifting to 70 lbs. on a routine basis, climbing, continuous standing while working required.
  7. May be exposed to dust, dirt, and chemicals.
  8. Work is both indoors and outdoors.
  9. May be exposed to inclement weather, ultraviolet radiation, and blood borne pathogens.
  10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

 

REPORTS TO:  Co-supervision of the Director of Facilities Management, Custodial Manager, Building Administrator, and the guidance of the Head Custodian

JOB GOALS

Performs custodial work required for the routine care, maintenance, protection and preservation of the assigned building, its contents, and immediate grounds in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.              

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Maintains an environment in the assigned workplace safe and conducive to student learning.
  2. Report custodial supply needs to the head custodian.
  3. Assure that cleanliness in the school meets District standard. 
  4. Assure that the facility is properly heated, ventilated and/or cooled (report major problems to Head Custodian).
  5. Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of school property through theft or pilferage.
  6. Be responsive to the needs of the building administrator including arrangements for evening activities and meetings, etc.
  7. Have knowledge to be available to cover for the Head Day Custodian.
  8. Assure that snow removal meets district standards for the safety of students, staff and public.
  9. Assist in the training of new employees and co-workers that are assigned to the building.
  10. Complete as many minor repair jobs as materials, tools, and time permit.
  11. Communicate clearly with others using verbal and written methods.
  12. Apply computer skills using email and data entry in the electronic work order system.
  13. Perform the daily work responsibilities assigned and approved for the position.
  14. Perform work and use equipment including:

 

- Cleaning agents

- Vacuums

- Yard equipment

- Snow removal machines

- Furniture and equipment dollies

- Various floor care machines

- Hand tools

- Ladders

 

 

- Snow removal

- Athletic complex

- Maintain entryways

- Upkeep parking lots

- Empty trash cans

 

- Report any damage

- Daily perimeter check

  1. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:      

 

  1. Contract Days.  Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.

 

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
