JOB GOAL: The Iowa City Community School District is a dynamic, student-centered, and future-focused school district looking for a successful candidate who will be responsible for developing the intellectual, social/emotional and physical needs of the students in the classroom in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall (efficiency) effectiveness of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. The teacher will follow the organizational pattern established for the school and create an environment favorable for learning, personal growth and care. The successful candidate will establish positive working relationships with parents and other staff members.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Create a learning environment based on current research in the area of early childhood. 2. Follow the Iowa Early Learning Standards to provide developmentally appropriate practices for all preschool children in the classroom. 3. Participate in the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards process. 4. Implement district curriculum and assessment, including Creative Curriculum and Creative Curriculum GOLD Assessment 5. Develop Individualized Education Programs for students eligible for special education. 6. Conduct ongoing progress monitoring as prescribed in the IEP and make instructional adjustments/accommodations as needed. 7. Develop and implement classroom activities and learning objectives consistent with district, building and preschool program goals. 8. Provide individual and small-group instruction designed to meet the individual needs of children in the preschool program. 9. Participate in preschool PW-PBIS and school-wide SW-PBIS training and implementation. 10. Establish and maintain standards of child behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive early childhood environment. 11. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop Behavior Intervention Plans for students, as needed; implement and monitor plan. 12. Attend professional in-service activities and teacher training workshops provided by the District as well as self-selected professional growth activities in order to maintain and improve professional competence 13. Follow district, school and preschool procedures to safeguard the health and safety of the children in the program. 14. Evaluate children's intellectual and social growth, keep appropriate records and assist in preparing progress reports. 15. Collaborate with Grant Wood AEA support service staff. 16. Collaborate with assigned paraprofessionals on a daily basis to ensure student needs are being met 17. Communicate with parents through home visits, parent/teacher conferences and informal communication to discuss their child's development and participation in the program. 18. Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with support staff in the preschool classroom. 19. Fulfill conditions within the district negotiated agreement. 20. Assume other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 189/190 days (AM only)
Work year as established by the ICCSD School Board of Directors. Salary is based on educational degree and experience per negotiated agreement.
EVALUATION: Teaching performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the ICCSD’s School Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
